Upendo Art Camp
Creativity was on another level during the August Art Camp at the Upendo Children’s Home in Kakamega, Kenya! From modern dance to music, photography, tailoring, and visual art, being “Made for More” means choosing to grow every day.
Here’s one story of that growth in action from the fashion and design class. Students who had previously depended heavily on their mentors were able to make clothes from scratch with very little guidance. This may appear to be a simple achievement, but it represents something much bigger. It showed that the students were beginning to trust their own abilities. They were not simply following instructions anymore. They were applying knowledge, making decisions, solving problems and creating something of their own. This illustrates the heart of what Made for More means: giving young people the opportunity to discover what they are capable of and helping them move from “I cannot” to “I can try, I can learn and I can create.”
At the end of the week the final Showcase was nothing short of incredible! Every child stepped forward, shared their gifts, and reminded us that they are truly “Made for More.” What a beautiful celebration of talent, creativity, courage, and purpose! We are so grateful for this growing partnership with Upendo Children’s Home and Beyond Our Door Global.
