We are entering the third year of our IA Scholarship Program! It all began in 2014 with scholarships for two students and funding for an Art Teacher in Mathare Valley, Kenya in partnership with Mathare Community Outreach (MCO). In 2015 we added one scholarship student from Hope Academy in S. Minneapolis, and one student from Santo Domingo, D.R. in partnership with Kristin and Joselo Santana and Mundo de Fe. This year our goal is to double the number of scholarship recipients to ten! Most of this funding we hope will come from our annual Scholarship Dinner and Silent Auction on March 11th, 2016. The mission of Inverted Arts is to empower disadvantaged youth by helping them discover and unleash their creative voices. The purpose of the IA Scholarship Fund is to invest in the artistic and academic development of former students and interns with the hope that scholarship students will return to their communities and invest in the creative potential of the younger students there.
2016 Scholarship Program Goal:
Mathare Valley, Kenya with MCO
5 students – $1,000/year each for up to four years
1 Art Teacher Salary Support – $3,000/year on-going
Santo Domingo, DR with Kristin and Joselo Wolford and Mundo De Fe
2 students – $1,000/year each for up to four years
Minneapolis, MN with Hope Academy
2 student – $2,500/year each for up to four years
Total IA Commitment $15,000/year
General Criteria:
Student graduates with a High School diploma from partner institution (or other local high school) with a minimum grade level requirement.
Student enrolls in an accredited college for 2-4 year program
Priority given to students pursuing the arts as a major or minor
Selection:
After an open application and essay process, award recipient is selected by partner committee and approved by IA. Program and funds are administered by IA and partner organization staff.
Expectations:
Student maintains enrollment and minimum grade level requirements
Student serves as Artist Mentor assistant at annual Art Camp or Art Exploration program
Student completes progress update two times per year.
