Little Earth: Pride of a People Overcoming Pain of the Past
“Little Earth” is an 18 minute documentary film featuring the multi-generational stories of the Little Earth Native community in Minneapolis, co-produced by Little Earth student interns: Elijah, Joshua and Diego. Little Earth is a 9.4-acre housing complex, home to 1,000 native residents representing 36 tribes across the country; 500 of whom are under the age of 21. This documentary highlights the pride and humanity of the community, sharing both the challenges and joys, while attempting to break down negative stereotypes of what it means to be Native American. The project is a collaboration between the students, Youth Director/Rapper TJ Valtierra (Red Lake Ojibwe), Chitwood Media, and Inverted Arts.
“This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.”
