Youth Changing Communities Through Creativity
Did you know that human beings aren’t meant to just be taken care of? We all have something to contribute! We’re all “created 2 create!” These four projects are led by young people who have incredible talent, dreams, and are using their creativity as a means for sustainable community development!
We invite you to help us raise $10,000 to invest in these four 2019 projects and help make their dreams for their communities a reality!
1. Yvonne Asunnah, Kenya – $2,500
People: IA Scholarship Recipient and Artist Mentor Yvonne Asunnah
Project: “Mathare Creative Creators” – Fashion Design Company
Purpose: A fashion design company that trains and mentors youth from the Kariobangi Orphanage in the Mathare Valley Slum to design and produce cutting edge fashion and home decor. Funds will be used to pay salary, purchase sewing machines and material.
2. Shevon Greene, Minneapolis, MN – $2,500
People: Shevon Greene – Hope Academy grad, IA student and int
ern for past seven years
Project: IA Scholarship Recipient – $2,500/yr for up to four years
Purpose: Shevon is a Communications major Augsburg University in Minneapolis, MN who hopes to mentor and educate future generations from her own community.
3. Mission of Hope for the Disabled, Liberia – $2,500
People: Our partner organization and community for 80 disabled children, youth and adults
Project: Two $1,000 youth scholarships, $500 for small business launch
Purpose: Award 2 college scholarships to current MHD youth residents who will also launch a small business at MHD as a means for sustainable community development
4. “Little Earth” Documentary Film, Minneapolis, MN- $2,500
People: Three Little Earth student co-producer interns (paid), TJ Valtierra – Youth Development Center (YDC), Josh and Morgan Chitwood – Chitwood Media
Project: A 15-minute documentary film featuring multi-generational stories of the Little Earth Native American community in South Minneapolis, MN, premiering fall 2019
Purpose: The film will highlight the pride of the community, while attempting to break down negative stereotypes of what it means to be Native American.
