Kariobangi Art Camp

By Seth Luchemos – Camp Director

We had an incredible and inspiring week at the Kariobangi Outreach Danoko Children’s Home Art Camp! A total of 45 participants engaged in diverse creative activities, using their gifts and talents under the theme “Let Your Light Shine”. The week was filled with learning, growth, and powerful moments of self-expression.

Music – Students in the music class had an exciting time learning keyboard playing, songwriting, and singing. Their dedication culminated in the recording of an original song titled “Glory to the Lord”, a beautiful reflection of their creativity and growth over the week.

Fashion – The fashion class was one of the highlights of the camp. Students learned how to: operate sewing machines, design, cut, and sew their own clothes. They were encouraged to continue utilizing the sewing machines available at the home to prevent them from falling into disrepair. Additionally, they were challenged to take up clothing repair projects, helping the home save costs and developing their skills for future sustainability.

Dance – The dance class participants showed remarkable dedication and discipline. They successfully mastered choreography for a five-minute-long dance track, achieving a high level of precision and performance. The energy, passion, and teamwork displayed by the students were truly impressive.

Arts and Crafts – This class offered exciting hands-on projects where students: created desk pen holders from wood and manila paper, practiced drawing techniques and painting on canvas. The creativity and craftsmanship displayed were a true testament to the theme of letting their light shine.

Photography/Videography – The photography and videography students played a vital role by capturing the camp’s memories. They learned essential theory on photography and videography, gaining a deeper understanding of their gadgets and techniques for taking great shots and videos.

Showcase – The camp concluded with a vibrant showcase where parents, guardians, and friends gathered to celebrate the students’ achievements. From fashion displays, music performances, and dance routines to art exhibitions and photography displays, the students shone brightly, expressing their talents with confidence and joy.

Through creativity, learning, and encouragement, the students at Danoko Children’s Home truly embodied the call to “Let Your Light Shine.” Their talents, leadership, and passion were ignited, leaving a lasting impact on their lives and community. We look forward to even greater journeys ahead!
